Course Introduction 課程簡介

Older adults experience a wide range of health conditions, leading to unique and diverse nutritional needs that require appropriate support. With the rapid growth of the ageing population, the demand for geriatric nutrition support has increased significantly and is expected to continue rising in the coming decades.

Adequate nutrition plays a crucial role in the prevention and management of many diseases. To enhance the quality of life of older adults, optimise their health and social participation, and reduce healthcare costs, this course aims to provide practical, foundational knowledge in geriatric nutrition for nutrition students and healthcare professionals.

長者常面對多種不同的健康問題,因而產生多元且獨特的營養需要,需配合適切的營養支援。隨著人口老齡化迅速發展,長者營養支援的需求顯著上升,並預計在未來數十年持續增長。

充足的營養對於多種疾病的預防與管理至關重要。為提升長者的生活質素、促進其健康及社會參與,並減低醫療開支,本課程旨在為營養學學生及醫療照護人員提供實務導向的長者營養基礎知識。

1. General geriatric nutrition and assessment
2. Diabetes
3. Hypertension
4. Hyperlipidaemia
5. Malnutrition and weight loss
6. Renal failure
7. Use of oral nutrition supplements
8. Soft meal preparation

Practicum (Job Shadowing ~15 hours)

1. Residential care homes: food preference checks, meal satisfaction surveys, kitchen audits
2. Day care centres
3. Home visits
4. Deliver a 1 hour talk under dietitian supervision

  • Designed and delivered by experienced geriatric dietitians with extensive clinical practice

  • Gain valuable hands-on experience through job shadowing in real clinical settings

  • Train in authentic working environments, including residential aged care homes and elderly day care centres

    • Fundamentals of nutrition assessment and medical nutrition therapy

    • Meal planning strategies and soft meal preparation

This course is suitable for nutrition students and individuals who aspire to pursue a career as a dietitian.

 Certification 證書頒發

Participants who:

  1. Successfully complete the practicum, and

  2. Achieve a passing grade in the final assessment

will be awarded the “Foundation Certificate in Geriatric Nutrition and Meal Planning in Practice” issued by the Hong Kong Community Dietitian Association.

Participants who attend online lectures only with at least 80% attendance will receive an Attendance Certificate.

學員如符合以下條件:

  1. 完成實習部分,及

  2. 通過課程評核

將獲頒由香港社區營養師協會發出的「長者營養學及飲食規劃實習基礎證書」。

只參與網上理論課堂之學員,如出席率達 80% 或以上,將獲發 出席證明。
